Journey from India to Canada
If I think about a life-changing decision, the first thing
that comes to my mind is CANADA. I was born and raised in Kerala, a beautiful
part of India. I loved it there. My whole family and life were there. I wanted
to study abroad and explore a new culture. I still haven't figured out how I gained
the courage to do something labelled crazy in my head. Of the many countries I
researched, Canada was my choice and best option because of factors like
affordability, easy admission, and, of course, the trend at that time. Canada
was not just a change of location, but it was a dramatic shift in my life.
My decision to move out of my native country and go to
Canada was intensely personal, driven by a desire for a better future. Whether
motivated by economic possibilities, educational chances, or the desire for an
improved standard of life, my journey began with enthusiasm and fear.
Leaving behind loved ones, beloved traditions, and the comforts of home is
hard.
From the day I started with my application till now,
standing here in Canada, the journey was and still is challenging. The cultural
shift hits hard, and finding the way and adapting is a real struggle. Despite the hurdles, there is a sense
of determination in the spirit, a willingness to welcome diversity and make
relationships in a new home.
Starting over in Canada meant recreating my life from zero.
Finding a job, finding a place to call home, and blending into the community
proved necessary but complex. Despite the challenges, I persisted, motivated by
a desire to succeed. Regardless of how tiny, every move forward felt like a
huge accomplishment in my quest to start a new life.
I realized that one of the most significant changes would be
the climate. Coming from a place where the weather is mostly hot and humid,
adjusting to Canada's harsh and diverse climate was an essential part
of my journey. Moving to Canada in December was
an unpleasant shock to my system. When I exited the airport, the freezing
weather hit me, and I knew my outfit was inadequate. Winter in India meant warm
weather and light jackets, but it was quite different here. Snow blanketed
everything, and the outside temperature was considerably below freezing. I
needed to quickly learn to layer gear, including thermal apparel, heavy coats,
gloves, caps, and scarves. The necessity for adequate winter footwear to
negotiate ice sidewalks was quickly evident.
My journey from India to Canada began in the middle of
winter and has been a transformative adventure of perseverance, adaptation, and
growth. The significant contrast in temperature offered another element of
difficulty, but it also demonstrated the human spirit's ability to adapt and
prosper. As I continue to weave my tale into the beautiful tapestry of Canada,
I am glad to be a part of a country that values variety, equality, and
opportunities. My path exemplifies the very spirit within the Canadian dream—an
ever-changing story of optimism, determination, and a desire for a brighter
tomorrow, even during the coldest of winters.
